The “International Working group for release of prisoners and hostages and tracing of missing persons of the Karabakh conflict” has been working in the region of the Karabakh conflict for many years already. We carry out our activities in cooperation and contact with authorities, NGOs, ICRC and OSCE. We conduct tracing of missing persons and hostages on requests of authorities of the sides to the conflict and relatives, contribute to the rapid release of prisoners and hostages. Our group is engaged in go-in-between activities, supporting contacts and information exchange between State Commissions for POWs, hostages and missing persons of Azerbaijan, Armenia and Nagorniy Karabagh. At the same time we promote confidence building, make attempts to establish direct contacts and cooperation between the said state commissions. The IWG follows up the former prisoners’ and hostages’ destinies of, renders an every possible assistance in solving their problems, and protects their rights. During our working visits to the Karabagh conflict region we visit prisoners, if there are any, detained by any side to the conflict. From 1997 to 2004 our work was supported by the Heinrich-Böll-Foundation and funded by the German government. Since January 2006 our work is financed by Caritas-France. |
